Web Designer / Developer

I am an experienced and reliable professional web designer and developer with over 10 years web analysis, design and development experience.

I am based near Cambridge, East Anglia in the UK and my clients include many different organisations, from small 2 or 3 person companies to large corporations.

I can work onsite at your offices or from my fully equipped office near Cambridge.

I'm currently working for a food safety client on a number of projects including the design of an online dashboard for their systems.

Before that...

  • I was working for a local company developing a suite of tools to assist in their operations in balancing and notifying power markets.
  • I was working on a complex financial system for ISBANUK (part of Santander/Abbey).
  • I was designing and developing an Energy Trading website for a local client using ADO.NET Entity Framework, C#, .NET 3.5, ASP.NET 3.5, AJAX with Visual Studio 2008, ECVNA & ECVAA.
  • I worked on a C#, SQL Server, ASP.NET Property website using Visual Studio 2008.
  • I worked on an ASP.NET 2.0 project developing a cash charge card system using Visual Studio 2005 Team Edition & Team Foundation Server in an Agile development environment.
  • I worked on comparethemarket.com which was an ASP.NET 2.0 project for comparing Car Insurance quotations. The system made extensive use of AJAX and Web Services.
  • A complex financial web site for a blue chip company to allow them to produce pension illustrations for their clients.

I am an expert level user of ASP, ASP.NET, C#, HTML, JavaScript, SQL Server, VB Script, VB.NET, XHTML and XML, XSL and XSLT. I am also familiar with AJAX and have developed Content Management Systems using these tools. I use CSS for styling and layout.

I also have experience using Google Analytics and the Google Maps API including the Google Maps Geocoder.

I have an excellent understanding of Usability and Accessibility issues and I work closely to W3C guidelines and recommendations.

I am also experienced in graphic design and image manipulation using Photoshop.

I have some experience in the black art of Search Engine Optimisation.

For development tools, I use Visual Studio with SourceSafe or Visual Studio 2005 Team Edition for .NET development work and Dreamweaver for smaller 'brochure-ware' sites although in some cases I use a simple text editor and hand code my XHTML & CSS for quality purposes.

The application areas I've worked in include E-commerce, Energy, Financial Services, Insurance, Pensions and Travel. I also have experience of working with design agencies and marketing organisations.

Working with large and small organisations has given me a useful insight to the needs and constraints of each type of business.
